The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved a law that would expand opportunities for men to care for children, namely allowing them to take a one-time paid leave of 14 calendar days. This possibility will appear for men:
- whose wives have given birth to a child;
- who are parents of a child, but are not married to the mother of the child, but live together with them, connected by household, mutual rights and obligations.
In addition, such paid leave is supposed to be granted to a grandmother, grandfather, or another adult relative of the child who is actually caring for the child (if the mother or father is raising the child independently).
However, there is a limitation that only one parent can receive this leave. In addition, men who have children under the age of 14 or a child with a disability will be able to request a reduction in working hours at their own expense.
